This Prospect Heights family is looking for a reliable, proactive, and organized part-time sitter to support their weekday afternoons, Monday through Friday, 3 P.M. – 6 P.M. The family has two young children and is looking for someone who can confidently manage pickups, activities, and dinner while keeping the home running smoothly. This is a great role for someone who enjoys staying busy, takes initiative, and is comfortable balancing childcare with light household support.
You are reliable, proactive, and comfortable taking ownership of the afternoon routine. You enjoy working with young children and are confident managing energy, transitions, and sibling dynamics. You take initiative with tasks like tidying, laundry, or meal prep without needing direction, and you’re comfortable setting clear boundaries when needed. You’re organized, engaged, and able to keep both children active and off screens.
Monday through Friday, 3 P.M. – 6 P.M. each day. **Additional hours available with one evening per week (schedule flexible with advance notice).
4.5 year old, boy: Very social, playful, and full of energy. He can test boundaries at times and responds well to clear structure and consistent follow-through. He’s loving and enjoys being silly and engaging with others. 2 year old, girl: Very sweet and closely follows her brother’s lead. She is still in diapers and will need attentive supervision, especially during outings and playtime.
Arrive before school pickup to help tidy children’s spaces, fold laundry, or prepare simple meals. Pick up children from school (typically around 4 P.M., with earlier pickup on Fridays, 3 P.M.), and bring them to activities such as dance or swimming. Engage the children in active, age-appropriate play, supervise outings, and support positive behavior with clear structure. Prepare and serve simple dinners and help get lunches ready for the following day. Maintain a clean, organized environment and help keep the home running smoothly throughout the shift. The family has pets and lives in a building with elevator access. Mom works from home and is often in meetings, so the sitter should be comfortable working independently during the day.
We are looking for candidates who are: legally authorized to work in the U.S., have an up-to-date in-person CPR certification, and can provide two references we can call and verify.
