Overview

Starting Monday, 5/31, this lovely Park Slope family is looking for a fun, engaging, and dependable after-school sitter to help care for their two children Monday through Friday. This position is ideally to get them through the school year, for the next month or so. If their chosen sitter is interested in some summer hours, they will have some to offer (but likely on a lighter basis). The role includes school pickup, escorting the children to activities, supporting afternoon routines, and keeping the kids active and engaged throughout the week. The family recently lost childcare unexpectedly and is hoping to find someone who can step in as soon as possible and become a steady, reliable presence for the children. They are looking to move quickly, so reach out ASAP if you're interested!

The Ideal Candidate for this Job

You are energetic, organized, and confident in managing busy after-school routines with school-aged children. You enjoy being active with kids, helping coordinate schedules, and balancing fun with responsibility. You’re comfortable navigating Brooklyn activities and transportation, communicating clearly with parents, and supporting a family that values consistency and reliability after experiencing a sudden childcare change.

About the Children

6 year old, boy: He is sweet, active, and enjoys a busy after-school schedule, including swim lessons and soccer. He has a nut allergy and is currently participating in exposure therapy, though he can safely be around nuts. He enjoys interactive play and staying physically active throughout the week. 10 year old, girl: She is mature, independent, and very interactive. She self-dismisses from school on Fridays and enjoys spending time with her younger brother while balancing her own growing independence. Both children are described as sweet, fun, and engaging kids who thrive with an active and dependable caregiver.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include school pickup, escorting the children to after-school activities throughout Brooklyn, helping manage transitions between activities and home, preparing snacks, and supporting afternoon and evening routines. One child has piano lessons at home during the week, while the younger child attends swim lessons in Gowanus and soccer on Fridays. The sitter should be comfortable balancing multiple schedules, supervising active children, and communicating with parents about the day.

Additional Information

The family has a dog in the home. They are hoping to find someone reliable after unexpectedly losing childcare with very little notice. Sick time is accrued at one hour for every 30 hours worked. All candidates will be required to submit: I-9 documentation (legal ability to work in the US) CPR/First Aid certification Two references we can call and verify
