This Brooklyn family is looking for a warm, playful, and engaging sitter to support their 8-year-old daughter throughout July and August. The role involves camp pickup across several Brooklyn neighborhoods, planning fun afternoon activities, and creating a nurturing environment where their daughter feels comfortable and supported. The family is looking for someone who genuinely enjoys imaginative play, can encourage outdoor activities, and is comfortable navigating different neighborhoods throughout the summer.
You are patient, nurturing, and highly engaging with school-aged children. You love imaginative play, don't mind spending time playing Barbies, and know how to balance fun with structure. You're comfortable commuting throughout Brooklyn, can adapt to changing schedules, and understand how to support a child who may need extra reassurance and a calm approach. You're reliable, communicative, and comfortable working with a family where Mom works in the office part of the week.
This is a summer position running throughout July and August with varying hours based on camp schedules: Week of July 6: Monday-Thursday, 3 P.M. - 7 P.M. Week of July 20: Monday-Thursday, 3 P.M. -- 7 P.M. Week of July 29: Monday-Thursday, 2:30 P.M. -- 6:30 P.M. Week of July 27: Monday-Thursday, 4 P.M. -- 8 P.M. Week of August 3: Monday-Thursday, 3 P.M. -- 7 P.M. Week of August 10: Monday-Thursday, 3 P.M. -- 7 P.M. Week of August 17: Monday-Friday, 3:30 P.M. -- 7:30 P.M. Week of August 24: Monday-Thursday, 3 P.M. -- 7 P.M. The family would appreciate some flexibility for the occasional Friday or an additional hour on certain days if needed.
8 yearold, girl: She is a bright and thoughtful child. She is well-liked by her teachers, has strong friendships both at school and in her building, and enjoys imaginative play. She can be somewhat of a homebody and occasionally needs encouragement to head outside for activities at the park. She does best with calm, nurturing caregivers and can become anxious if someone raises their voice. She has no allergies or medical needs. The family allows limited screen time, including occasional short periods of iPad use.
Responsibilities include picking up the child from camps located throughout Brooklyn, including Ditmas Park, Windsor Terrace, Park Slope, Carroll Gardens, and Gowanus; safely transporting and accompanying her between activities; planning engaging afternoon activities; encouraging outdoor play and physical activity; supervising playdates or park visits when appropriate; preparing simple snacks; and supporting afternoon routines. The family is looking for someone who enjoys interactive play and can build a genuine connection through activities like crafts, games, storytelling, and imaginative play.
Camp locations vary throughout the summer, so comfort traveling between Brooklyn neighborhoods is essential. There are no pets in the home. The position will begin at $30/hour, paid directly by the family, with the expectation of transitioning to payroll.
