PART-TIME SITTER: 3 year old boy in Brooklyn Heights

Overview

This family is looking for a warm, confident, and organized part-time sitter to become an important part of their weekday routine beginning in August. The role focuses primarily on caring for their 3-year-old son after school while also helping keep the children's daily routines running smoothly through child-related household tasks. They're looking for someone who enjoys imaginative play, can confidently set loving boundaries with a bright and curious preschooler, and is comfortable balancing childcare with light household responsibilities.

The Ideal Candidate for this Job

You are dependable, engaging, and highly organized. You genuinely enjoy preschool-aged children and know how to balance playfulness with structure. You're comfortable setting clear, consistent boundaries while maintaining a warm and positive relationship. You're equally happy spending the afternoon engaged in pretend play and helping prepare lunches, fold laundry, or tidy children's spaces. Experience with toddlers is essential, and infant experience is a plus.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 2 P.M. - 7 P.M. **August start!

About the Children

3 year old, boy: He is outgoing, incredibly bright, and emotionally intuitive. He loves pretend play, singing, dancing, and engaging in imaginative games with his caregivers. He's very social and enjoys conversation, but he's also a skilled negotiator who likes to test boundaries. The family is looking for someone who can confidently provide loving structure while remaining playful and engaged.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include school pickup, accompanying the older child to activities, planning engaging age-appropriate play, preparing and serving dinner, supporting bath time and bedtime routines, preparing school and daycare lunches, children's laundry, tidying children's bedrooms and play spaces, cleaning lunchboxes, and maintaining a tidy kitchen after dinner. On rare occasions, the sitter may also pick up the baby from daycare and briefly care for both children before a parent returns home. Daily schedule: 2 P.M.-3 P.M.: Children's laundry, kitchen tidying, and preparing lunches for the following day. 3 P.M.-5:30 P.M.: School pickup (3 P.M. in August; 3:30 P.M. after Labor Day), after-school activities, and playtime. 5:30 P.M.-7 P.M.: Dinner support, lunchbox clean-up, bath time, and bedtime preparation.

Additional Information

The family has a friendly dog in the home and lives in a fourth-floor walk-up. Their baby attends daycare full-time, so daily care will primarily focus on the preschooler. All candidates will be required to submit: I-9 documentation (legal ability to work in the US) CPR/First Aid certification Two references we can call and verify
